Challenge cup takes center stage Kolkata July 29, 2010: While the corporates battle it out for top honours in the KKN presented Telegraph Cup in association with Senbo & Ballantine’s day three belonged to the companies vying for top honours in the Telegraph Challenge Cup. The perfect stage has been set for a grand stand finish with South India Projects along with Orson Holdings and Senbo – Blue all at 104 stableford points having just their nose ahead of Where Eagles Rare and Senbo – yellow. All the leading groups will play together and now it will be a matter of whose nerves hold up to decide the winner. Raghav Khaitan of South India Projects was the day’s star performer with 45 points and other notable scores came from Rohan Shroff, Rohit Gupta and Harmeet Sahney along with Sanjeev Mehra all of whom returned 38 points. Focusing back on the main KKN presented Telegraph Cup Lakshman Singh will need to commit hara-kiri to loose from the position they currently find themselves in as after the brilliance of Aditya Khaitan on day one and his teammates J Gohain and Vivek Seth having consolidated their position for a three day total of 221 nine strokes clear of Ichiban Facility Management at 230 the Division III leaders and one stroke further ahead of Oil India “A” who are at 231. Madhya Bharat came back into the frame when Akhilesh Chitlangia returned an even par 72 and they will definitely now be favourites to win the Division I prize. In Division II Goodricke Group “B” took over the reign at the top when P Neogi returned an 82 for a three day total of 254 with their closest opposition coming from Williamson Magor “B” at 257. G I Security Pvt. Ltd gave themselves a fair chance of outplaying Ichiban Facility Management for Division III honours when Angad Luthra returned a 72. The Ballantines longest drive was won by Karan Singh from “The Telegraph” when he propelled his drive 292 yards. U Roy of Goodricke “C” with a 66nett won the days best on a count back of the last 9 holes. In Division II it was U Gohain of Tata Tea “A” with a 60 nett and Amit Bhowmick of BOC “B” with a 57 nett topping their respective divisions after the special handicap adjustments introduced to make this a more enjoyable event. |
