Ek
Prayaas is a registered non-profit endeavour initiated for the under privileged
children of our society. As the name suggests, it is a humble effort to
support, educate and bring about an all round development in the lives of the
poor and needy children. We believe that every child has a right to education,
right to play and right to proper upbringing. Ek Prayaas is a small step taken
in the direction of giving shape to our belief and turning it into reality.
Their
primary aim is to instill in them a sense of confidence and self worth, which
is only possible through education and a complete development of the self. As
literate beings, they will be able to realize their own potential and become an
integral part of our society, instead of some nameless face in a world of
darkness.
Started
on 7th September 2004, in a single room, with one teacher and a mere 12
children, the Ek Prayaas family has now grown to include 70 children, starting
from ages 4 to 14, who belong mostly to the surrounding slum areas. We have six
Classes - Lower Nursery, Upper Nursery, KG, and Classes I, II & III.
Whereas Lower and Upper Nursery Classes are being held under the roof of a
local club, the other Classes are portioned off within a single large room. A
proper curriculum has six able teachers along with some volunteers who devote
their efforts and time to expanding the skills of these children.
Chanting
of prayers mark the beginning and end of each school day as well as before
meals. We are going to incorporate yoga classes in their daily routine as we
believe it essential for both, their mental and physical well being. For this,
we have received the gracious help of Satyananda Yoga Kendra Teachers. To help
these children explore their creativity, we have regular arts and crafts
classes as part of their curriculum and are in the process of imparting a
theatre experience to them as well.
The
existence of "Ek Prayaas" depends on a collective effort and
not just on individuals. Let us come together and try to give these children an
equal opportunity to rise and shine in our society.
Their
imminent requirement is a somewhat more spacious premises, primarily under one
roof, so as to enable us to impart learning in a more organized manner. The
minimum area needed would be 500 sq. ft. Any help in this regard would
especially be welcome.
For
this, we welcome any help, monetarily or otherwise. We sincerely hope that you
can become a part of this ongoing effort to better their lives and help them
dream big and realize their dreams.
